Heidi       Why I love to work with words.

From an early age, I discovered the incredible power of words and how the reading, hearing, and speaking of them could affect how Iand othersperceived the world we inhabit each day.

Words influence our expressions of love, anger, gratitude, and wonder. They color our perceptions of how we fit into the great complexities of life on our planet. Words communicate our most personal of stories and illuminate our artwork, religions, dreams, and histories. Wordsin spoken or written formcreate strong, underlying currents that shape our relationships and how we think of ourselves and our worth. Now, that's a powerful force!

As an honors student in poetry, I had the good fortune to have Hilda Morley (1916-1998), the famous Black Mountain School poet, as my examiner.  This early deep-dive into the world of words coupled with my continued interdisciplinary studies at graduate school, helped propel me into a life focused on literature, art, and a keen curiosity for what lies beneath the surface. A formal foray into editing as a career was a natural culmination of my love of words and how they affect us.

From the micro-level expertise of proofreading to the early stage, big-picture work of developmental editing, I am a respectful, accomplished, and professional editor who is here to help authors and clients produce their best work. My deep knowledge of emerging "conscious language" can assist authors who wish to communicate effectively without stereotypes.

Make your book

the very best

it can be.

“Heidi did an amazing job proofreading my book and picked up on details that I wouldn’t have even thought of! I was really pleased with her work and suggestions, especially considering my book was very long! I would absolutely consider her again as my proofreader for any future projects.”

- Inge Natalie Hol

“In writing my first book, I had plenty of doubts about whether it would ever come together. Heidi’s thoughtful feedback was priceless in alerting me of the need to provide clear roadmaps, eliminate side stories, make my protagonist relatable, layer in an arc, and incorporate more structural elements.  I will always be grateful that I worked with Heidi early in my writing career.”

- Brett Pahler

"Heidi's editorial feedback was timely, thoughtful, and detailed.

Her critique and suggestions were encouraging, professional, and useful. I highly recommend Heidi to any author."

- J.A. Nelson
